The Brentwood High School Counseling Center is here to assist you with your College and Career Planning needs. BHS counselors focus on the process of preparing for testing and college applications, getting to know your strengths and creative passions, and encouraging you to expand your academic and extracurricular interests to strengthen your college resume.

College Visits to BHS

Learn more about prospective colleges during College Representative Visits to BHS. College representatives will be visiting our school throughout the year. Representatives will answer questions about their school, the programs they offer, and information about financial aid and admittance. This is a great way to expand the college search and to see if a college is the right fit for you.

NCAA Initial-Eligibility

The NCAA Initial-Eligibility Clearinghouse is the organization that determines whether prospective college athletes are eligible to play sports at NCAA Division I or Division II institutions. If you aspire to be a student-athlete in college, you must register with the NCCA Clearinghouse and meet the stated requirements.

In order to be cleared by the NCAA you must meet certain academic requirements: complete 16 core courses, have a minimum GPA of 2.3 (for D1) or 2.2 (for D2) in those core courses, and meet the minimums of the sliding scale in your combination of core course GPA and SAT/ACT test scores.

Scholarship & Financial Aid

Williamson County Counselors have created a district-wide WCS Scholarship List. Students are encouraged to browse the list as they search for college scholarships. Students can only access the list with their WCS Gmail accounts.

FAFSA (Free Application for Financial Student Aid)

The FAFSA should be filled out by anyone who is planning on attending a post-secondary school, regardless of whether you plan to take out student loans or not. Grants and other monetary rewards (Hope Scholarship, TN Promise, etc.) are tied to this form, which is why the counseling center will work hard to make sure your student completes it. The FAFSA event opens on the 1st of October.

The state of Tennessee believes in fostering the educational success of every student no matter what their future plans are. The following are all ways in which they Invest in You.

Tennessee Promise: Seniors may apply for the Tennessee Promise scholarship, which will provide two years of tuition-free attendance at a community or technical college in Tennessee.

Tennessee HOPE Scholarship: The Tennessee HOPE Scholarship Program provides scholarship and grant assistance to Tennesseans attending eligible Tennessee post-secondary institutions. Review the requirements for the HOPE Scholarship and apply online.

Tennessee Student Assistance Corporation: The Tennessee Student Assistance Corporation administers over 20 different state student financial aid programs, including the HOPE scholarship, Tennessee Promise, Tennessee Reconnect, Tennessee Student Assistance Award, and the Dual Enrollment grant.

Transcripts

Important Notes:

End of year grades are not finalized until the end of May.
Test scores are not included with transcripts. Test scores must be sent from the testing agency (ACT/ SAT).
If you need a replacement high school diploma, you must complete the official request for a duplicate diploma from the state of Tennessee.
For an unofficial transcript (for personal use, uploading or insurance purposes) or with any other questions, please reach out to our registrar Jordan Lancaster.

Alumni 2018-2024 and Current Students:

To order a transcript for a college or the NCAA, submit your request through the Order a Transcript website. This transcript service is free of charge. Click start and follow the instructions to order your transcript. Make a note of the tracking number(s) to check on your order status and verify when the receiving institution releases your transcript. Keep in mind, it still may take the receiving institution a week or two to accept and process your transcript.

Alumni 1983-2017:

Transcript request for 2017 and before will be processed by our registrar on campus. Please download, complete, and send the form in along with your proof of online payment to BHS either by email to our registrar Jordan Lancaster, by mail, or by dropping it at the Counseling office.

BHS Parent Academies

Presented by Stephen Womack, WCS College Readiness Specialist.

The goal of the Parent Academy is to discuss the issues that our kids will face that will impact their families as they prepare for what comes after high school. Our time together will be seeking to better understand the processes and preparing for conversations to have with our kids as they plan for those next steps. Participants will be engaged in discussions that prepare for those conversations.

Class 1: Paths and Fit
There are multiple ways to get from one point to another. We will explore some of those paths, consider the benefits and "fit" of each, and discuss ways to help our kids pick the path that is best for them.
Class 2: The Impact of Testing
We will explore how achievement on various tests might impact opportunities and scholarships while considering how we can support our kids as they work to improve.
Class 3: Beyond Testing
We will look at components beyond testing that are part of a holistic review of students for admission and scholarship considerations, and we will discuss how to help our kids cultivate those traits.
Class 4: Writings That Matter
Admission essays, scholarship essays, and recommendations can all impact students' opportunities. We’ll discuss how to help our kids get the most out of these writing opportunities.
