Winter Athletics
Winter athletic teams begin practice during the summer months before school starts in most cases. This athletic season runs from early November through the end of February.
Basketball-Boys
Brentwood High School’s boys basketball team has a strong tradition.
Expectations
The first expectation is for every player to be a student-athlete and to represent themselves in a positive manner on and off the floor. There will be a set of rules and guidelines given to players that make the team. Last year’s varsity team had every student carrying over a 3.0 GPA.
The second expectation is for each player to be coachable, a great teammate and always trying to improve as a player. Teams are made during the season while players are made during the off season. This means that each player is trying to improve their conditioning and their individual skills on their own.
As a team there will be several practices during the spring. The summer is a very important part of the success of the team. The summer season will last from the end of school until the last week of June. The last week of June and the first week of July are dead periods where there will be no contact with the players and a great time to take a vacation. There will be open gyms later on in the summer but nothing that is mandatory. When school starts in the fall we will condition and have open gyms planed tentatively every Tuesday and Thursday after school when possible, but it will depend on when the gym is available. If an athlete participates in more than one sport they should concentrate on the sport that is in season.
Tryouts
Tryouts will start on the first day of practice in October. Tryouts will last until the coaching staff determines if a prospective player can make the team. The summer season and spring practices are used to evaluate prospective players. If a student is new to the school they should introduce themselves to Coach Bond.
Contact
Throughout the season the key word is communication within our basketball family. We work better when we work together. If you have any questions regarding BHS Boys Basketball, please contact Troy Crane.
Basketball-Girls
Expectations
During the season, they will practice at least once a week depending on how many games are scheduled. Team members are expected to practice during the off season by participating in conditioning from August – November.
Tryouts
Girls Basketball tryouts will be held in the summer for the following school year.

Cheer-Basketball & Football
The cheerleading team at BHS is part of the Athletic department and is included in the school’s membership in the Tennessee Secondary School Athletic Association (TSSAA). As per the expectation of the Brentwood High School Administration, our priorities are to:
- support the football and basketball teams,
- promote school spirit,
- serve as positive role models among peers in our academic performance and behavior in and outside of school and on social media, and
- serve as ambassadors of Brentwood High School in the greater community.
Members of the cheer team also have the option of participating in cheerleading competitions, but this will be done as a separate activity.
Expectations
Cheerleaders at BHS attend camps prior to the season, practice 1-2 times per week, participate in fundraising activities and community appearances.
Tryouts
The Varsity cheerleading team is open to rising 10th-12th graders and the JV Cheerleading team is open to rising 9th-11th Graders. Tryouts are held in the spring semester for the upcoming school year. At tryouts, candidates will demonstrate sideline skills (cheer, chant, dance) as well as jumps, tumbling and stunt technique.

Cheer-Wrestling
Wrestling Cheerleading teaches the sport of wrestling. Cheerleaders learn cheers for the home and away matches and scoring for away tournaments. Their efforts help the coaches to ensure the wrestlers get the points they earned. At our home tournament, cheerleaders keep score and run the clocks for the referees. Being a part of the Wrestling program provides a rewarding experience and a fun way to get involved in athletics at BHS.
Expectations
It is expected that all Wrestling Cheerleaders participate in cheer practices, learn to score and have a positive team spirit attitude.
Tryouts
Available to Freshman – Senior girls by signing up the first day of school. You must have a current sports physical on file in the BHS athletic office prior school starting.

Wrestling
Wrestling is a physically and mentally demanding sport that teaches athletes discipline, determination, problem-solving skills, self-assurance, and honest work ethic. Wrestling matches consist of individual participation in weight-classes where wins and losses count for team points.
Expectations
Show up and participate in wrestling practices, weight-lifting, and running. Have a positive attitude and desire to learn.
Tryouts
Wrestling is offered to rising Freshmen through Senior boys, Varsity and Junior Varsity. Wrestling does not have tryouts; if you can survive, then you make the team.
